Parametric Test Engineer

Role Purpose

As a Parametric Test Engineer within the Electronics Team in Product Engineering, you are the Mercedes HPP specialist for the board and module level testing of all the circuitry that comprises the ERS Module.

The role demands a high degree of contact with both the hardware designers & other departments to deliver complex system solutions efficiently & in a timely manner. You will be responsible for ensuring that the agreed systems architecture is functional at the point of delivery, & also for ensuring that issues & faults arising are dealt with rapidly.

In this role, the Test Engineer is empowered to act autonomously, ensuring accountability and ownership for the task in hand to drive a right first time solution taking into account performance, obsolescence, cost & other key programme metrics.

 

Role Specific Accountabilities 

  • Concept & detailed design of specific test hardware, fixtures, & software to allow testing of the ERS modules and all relevant sub-assemblies.

  • Training of staff in the operation of the test equipment.

  • Liaising with external equipment suppliers to ensure specifications are met.

  • Assisting ERS Build, Test, & Trackside with issue resolution

  • Design & development of ERS related technical procedures & tests

  • Problem diagnosis & failure analysis

  • Day to day management of assigned tasks

  • Building inter departmental working relationships

  • Championing best practices

  • Liaison with internal and external suppliers

  • Health and safety of his or herself within the work environment.

 

Knowledge, skills and experience required

Essential

  • Knowledge of electronic engineering practices and systems.

  • Excellent knowledge of NI Labview & TestStand, including PXI & Real time applications.

  • Developing complex Labview applications from first principles.

  • Excellent fault finding & diagnostic skills.

  • Up to date knowledge of Electrical/Electronic systems & component testing principles, up to 1kV system voltage.

  • Experience in analysing & understanding complex data

  • Good understanding of automotive hybrid systems operation

 

Desirable

  • NI Labview Certified Developer qualified.

  • Previous experience as an Electronics Hardware designer.

  • Experience of testing high voltage (1kV) and high power electrical drive systems

  • Experience with Orcad schematic capture and layout

  • Qualified to HPP SMS AP level

 

Qualifications
 
Essential

  • BEng / BSc Qualified (2:1 minimum) in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or allied discipline

Desirable

  • 5+ years post graduate experience in an electronics test environment
