We currently have a vacancy for a Mechanical Simulation Engineer to join our Mechanical Simulation department.

HPP are strengthening the Engineering group by investing in the creation of a new Mechanical Simulation Department. This team will have three main groups focusing on Reliability “What-Ifs”, Mechanical Simulation and Advanced Measurement. The Mechanical Simulation team are responsible for ensuring HPP are developing and using leading simulation tools and techniques that will benefit the Power Unit, by both increasing our right first time engineering and enable swifter failure resolution.
Role Purpose

The Mechanical Simulation Engineer will be responsible for the development and validation of simulation models and methods for complex Mechanical components and assemblies.

Role Specific Accountabilities

• Create and run complex simulation models on reception of instructions from the Mechanical Simulation Team Leader
• Ensure the validity of the model considering boundary conditions, and component properties
• Optimise the model to minimise pre-processing time, running time, post-processing time
• Create pragmatic, fast solving simulation models to aid rapid design iterations
• Analyse and Validate simulation results
• In relation with the Advanced Measurement team, define the tests and measurements required to validate the results
• Produce Test Requests for Model Validation
• Produce corresponding simulation reports (inkling confirmation of correlation between model and measurement)
• Produce ‘’Work Instructions’’ and implement model in Product Engineering where appropriate

Knowledge, skills and experience required

Essential

• Excellent understanding of first principles mechanical engineering
• Excellent understanding of mechanical dynamics
• Proven track record of generating analysis models and tools for both linear and non-linear structural analysis of mechanical systems
• Proven track record of generating analysis models and tools for rigid and flexible multibody dynamic simulation and stress analysis of mechanical systems
• Proven track record of fatigue analysis and life-cycle model development
• Experience in model testing and validation
• Ability to develop 1D simulations/hand calculations. to back up full analysis and provide fast first order iterative design tools
• Experience in analysis of both metallic and composite structures / components
• Familiar with 2 or more of the following software packages ABAQUS CAE, ABAQUS for Catia, CATIA, HYPERMESH, SIMPACK, DYMOLA, SIMSCAPE (Mathlab), AVL EXCITE, FE-SAFE

Desirable

• Good understanding of internal combustion engines
• Good understanding of ERS/Hybrid mechanical aspects
• CATIA based design experience of ICE and ERS Systems
• An interest in measurement technology
• Other Software experience such as NASTRAN, ANSYS, SOLIDWORKS, amongst others
• Proven track record of generating analysis models and tools for rigid and flexible multibody dynamic simulation and stress recovery of ICE and ERS systems (crankshaft, valvetrain, motor rotor)
