Background:

Mercedes-Benz has been setting the standard in racing for over 100 years. At Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains we work tirelessly to continue the proud history of the legendary Silver Arrows by delivering pioneering innovations to the race track with every development of our Hybrid Power Unit.

We have a number of exciting opportunities for enthusiastic, innovative, creative and tenacious senior mechanical engineers to join our World Championship winning team at our cutting edge Technology Centre in Northamptonshire.

The successful candidate will take full ownership and responsibility for engineering world class solutions to enhance the performance of our World Championship winning Hybrid Power Unit.  You will deliver engineering excellence from concept, through prove-out, to race introduction, working closely with other departments to ensure right first time, every time.

We invest in our greatest asset: people, and strive to live by our values of Success, Passion, Integrity, Respect, Innovation, & Team-Work.

We succeed when everyone delivers their improvement in thermal efficiency, their tenth of a second of lap time. No matter which area of the team you work in, you will determine how we perform on and off the track.

Every person here takes immense pride in playing their part to the highest standards each and every day. Working here is fast. It demands technical excellence and teamwork, and it calls for great reserves of motivation and resilience.

Own and deliver your innovations, your tenth of a second. Play your part. Join us

About the role:

We are looking for skilled analysis engineers, capable of delivering static and dynamic analysis of components, assemblies and systems (mechanical / thermal analyses).

You will be responsible for undertaking the simulation work for the most complex and challenging of problems within the F1 product engineering group. You will also be responsible for working with design engineers to ensure that their calculations and analyses are completed to best practice. The overall purpose is to ensure that the designs released by the product engineering group are right first time whilst meeting the often competing targets of performance, mass, cost and reliability.

Through the practical, structured use of analysis methods and the training of others within the team, the quality and lead time for fully engineered solutions will reduce, allowing us to bring performance and reliability to the circuit in reduced times scales
  • Delivering world class simulation driven solutions, supported by first principles engineering to meet demanding project targets.
  • Technical development of processes
  • Championing best practice & providing support & training to peers
  • Communications of technical solutions including the writing of technical reports

About you:

  • Degree qualified (2:1 minimum) in an appropriate engineering discipline (Mechanical Engineering / Automotive / Aerospace or similar)
  • Excellent first principles engineer
  • Equally confident in hand calculations and complex simulations
  • Expert in the use of linear and non-linear structural analysis simulation tools and pre/post processors, preferably using Abaqus
  • Solid understanding of internal combustion engines / rotating machinery and their sub-systems, including mechanical and thermal loading (internally and externally generated)
  • Minimum 4 years post graduate experience in a challenging role demonstrating the use of analytical tools to complement and enhance the design of complex, highly loaded components/systems
  • Detailed understanding of materials and their properties
About our work place:

As part of the Daimler group, we are fortunate to have a world class, state of the art, exceptionally well-funded Technology Centre focussed on turning your engineering concepts into race winning reality. We are investing heavily in our people and our infrastructure to keep ahead of the opposition.
